The Danish world number 1 defeated her Slovakian opponent 6-4, 6-3.

In other women’s ties – China’s Na Li eased past Barbora Zahlavova Strycova of the Czech Republic 6-2, 6-1.

In Men’s action – 3rd-seed Novak Djokovic of Serbia had it easy after his countryman Viktor Troicki retired in the second-set.

Into Football now and Kenny Dalglish has confirmed that he will look to add to the Liverpool squad during January after being given the green light by the club's owners.

With the budget set to be swelled by the sale of Ryan Babel to Hoffenheim, Dalglish is set to splash out in order to revive the Reds' fortunes which could include the purchase of Ajax striker Luis Suarez.

Milan managed a 3-0 win over Bari who are currently bottom-placed in the league.

And finally in Spain’s Copa del Rey – Real Madrid managed a 1-0 win over Atletico Madrid in their second-leg quarter-final tie to advance 4-1 on aggregate.
