Football and in results of Day-11 of the FIFA World Cup – Portugal provided the tournament’s first thrashing – beating North Korea 7-nil in Cape Town.

Tiago got a brace and Cristiano Ronaldo finally got onto the scorer’s sheet.

The win puts the Portuguese in second place in Group G – 2 points behind Brazil and elliminates North Korea from the competition.

Elsewhere in Port Elisabeth – Chile took command of Group H with another fine 1-nil display, this time against Switzerland.

Mark Gonzalez netted the winner for Chile in a tie that saw Switzerland play with 10-men for almost an hour.

And rounding off Group H – a brace from David Villa gave Spain their first win of the competition defeating Hondurus 2-nil.

Looking ahead tonight – Group A concludes with two ties playing simultaneously – in Rustenburg – Mexico will play against Uruguay – where a draw will suit both teams to progress into the next stage.

And over in Bloemfontein – hosts South Africa will hope to rescue their campaign by beating a dis-united France at the Free State Stadium.

Both ties kick-off at 10pm.

Now over in Group B – final games as well for Nigeria, South Korea, Greece and Argentina, where all 4 teams are still in it with a chance to qualify for the Round of 16.

In Durban Nigeria will play South Korea, and over in Polokwane Greece will hope to upset Argentina to stand any chance of making it into the next stage.

Both ties will kick-off at 2:30am.

Finally in Tennis and in Wimbledon – Roger Federer came back from the brink as he narrowly avoided becoming the casualty of the greatest upset in the history of the competition.

The Swiss Master who was two sets down to unheralded Colombian Alejandro Falla, clawed back to win 5-7 4-6 6-4 7-6 6-0.
