Class 95 DJs shake hands for charity

9500 Handshakes for Charity 2Singapore’s Class 95FM’s 9500 Handshakes campaign to help their adopted charity – ARC Children’s Centre, has wrapped up.
The four-part event saw DJs – Bobby Tonelli, Jean Danker, Mike Kasem, Joe Augustin, Glenn Ong, Jeremy Ratnam and Yasminne Cheng, take to the streets to meet and shake the hands of listeners.
“It was very heartwarming to see how so many listeners came out to contribute to our charity,” said Ms Margaret Mary Lim, Assistant Programme Director of Class 95FM.
“We had one child who came down specifically to donate his birthday gift of $1,000 because he felt the ARC Children’s Centre would benefit more from it.  We’ll definitely be doing this again!” she added.
Recounting the generosity of some listeners, Jeremy Ratnam, the newest DJ at Class 95FM said: “A mother and her two children rushed down to where we were just a couple of minutes before we packed-up, and each child dropped a $50 note into the donation box, and the mother exclaimed, ‘We rushed out from our house in Woodlands just to come by and donate to the kids of ARC Children’s Centre’.”

#987ShowMeTheMusic - Monday, 2 December, 2013

#LITTLEBLACKSTARS it's your week to shine on #987ShowMeTheMusic from Monday 2/Dec as we uncover the most popular song from AVRIL LAVIGNE'S self-titled 5th studio album!

 1. Rock n Roll

The second single from "Avril Lavigne"
2. Here's To Never Growing Up

3. 17 - Avril Lavigne was 17 when she was putting together the songs on her 2002 debut "Let Go," and the 29-year-old looks back on those wistfully on the immaculate pop-rock track "17."
4. Bitchin' Summer - Lavigne's personal cry of "Schoooooool's out… for… summer!"
5. Let Me Go feat. Chad Kroeger

Almost as shocking as last year's out-of-nowhere union of Lavigne and Nickelback frontman Chad Kroeger: their duet, "Let Me Go," is a pained breakup song!
6. Give You What You Like -
7. Bad Girl feat. Marilyn Manson -
8. Hello Kitty -
9. You Ain't Seen Nothin' Yet - Lavigne travels back to her well-worn pop-rock path and spins a tale of quickly forged romance that could have easily fit in on "The Best Damn Thing."
10. Sippin' on Sunshine - The first song on the album to shove the bass to the forefront!
11. Hello Heartache -
12. Falling Fast - There are moments on "Avril Lavigne" that the singer seems primed for a country-pop makeover, and "Falling Fast" is the clearest, and best, example of Lavigne's subtle shift toward Nashville's biggest genre.
13. Hush Hush -

#987ShowMeTheMusic - Monday, 11th November, 2013

#SMILERS ! It's your week on #SMTM from Monday 11th November… Read about the tracks and VOTE them >> 5 #Smilers walk away with 'BANGERZ' and an exclusive Miley Cyrus Poster! ~ Jeremy

1. Adore You - "I just started living," Cyrus sings over canned drums and string whispers. "Bangerz" wisely begins with a song that is emotionally mature but not overly provocative -- instead of immediately wagging her tongue at listeners, the singer proves that her passion can reside in short, vulnerable proclamations of romance.
2. We Can't Stop

Oh, you've heard this one already? "We Can't Stop" remains one of the more undeniable pop songs of 2013, with meme-able lyrics, delightfully zonked-out production from Mike WiLL Made-It and without a doubt the best intro of any summer smash.
3. SMS (Bangerz) feat. Britney Spears - Miley has described Britney Spears as an idol, and here, she emulates the pop queen's penchant for cheeky, "It's Britney bitch" button-pushing (sample line: "They ask me how I keep a man?/I keep a battery pack!") while shoving Spears to the second verse. "SMS (Bangerz)" is admittedly sloppy and rife with gimmicks… but that won't prevent anyone from at least scoping out a Britney/Miley duet on the LP, if only for the sake of curiosity.
4. 4x4 feat. Nelly - Nelly has not been shy about collaborating with Nashville stars, and while Miley Cyrus is by no means a country artists, she might as well be on "4x4," a rhythmic hoedown about a "female rebel" trying to get her main squeeze some bail money. The deceptively simple arrangement grows on the listener after repeated listens; kudos to Cyrus, Nelly and co-writer Pharrell Williams for seeing this oddball concept through.
5. My Darlin' feat. Future - Those wondering why Ben E. King is listed as a co-writer on "My Darlin'" will have their answer as soon as Future and Cyrus croak a few bars of "Stand By Me" over a lilting Mike WiLL beat. Whereas Future's gonzo approach to R&B abetted Rihanna's "Loveeeeeee Song" last fall, he actually distracts from a pretty solid Cyrus performance here, and "My Darlin'" ends up getting swallowed by a sea of blinking synths and unthawed crooning.
6. Wrecking Ball

The power and purpose of "Wrecking Ball," Cyrus' first No. 1 single on the Hot 100 chart, is amplified after a handful of good-but-not-great love songs on "Bangerz." Although "Adore You" and "My Darlin'" showcased a young singer trying to mesh her revamped style with time-honored romantic tropes, "Wrecking Ball" is a blunt, bruising breakup song she immediately understands how to handle.
7. Love Money Party feat. Big Sean - Cyrus pounds on the ground and begs Mike WiLL Made It to concoct a grimy, haunted-house beat to match up her fired-up manifesto. Unlike Mike WiLL's own single "23," in which Cyrus awkwardly spat bars to keep up with the bullet-time rhymes of Wiz Khalifa and Juicy J, the singer sounds more at ease next to Big Sean's start-stop punchlines on this bleary-eyed banger.
8. Get It Right - In 2012, way before his "Blurred Lines"/"Get Lucky" resurgence, Pharrell Williams added two mid-track list standouts to a pair of high-profile pop albums, Usher's "Looking 4 Myself" ("Twisted") and Adam Lambert's "Trespassing" ("Kickin' In"). The producer does the exact same thing on "Bangerz" with "Get It Right," a stylish breeze defined by whistling -- yes, whistling -- and a chopped guitar lick. Cyrus sounds absolutely in love with the vibe here, as she should.
9. Drive - Mike WiLL's murky energy slams head-on into Cyrus' shock over a betrayal, with mixed results. The production zig-zags impressively, and while Cyrus delivers another compelling performance, one wishes that the metaphor-laden hook contained the same impact as the dazzling "Wrecking Ball."
10. FU feat. French Montana - Whoa, when did Miley Cyrus transform into Lady Gaga? This campy piano flare-up is the lone howler on "Bangerz," with lyrics ("Then I accidentally saw a few things in your cell/I even LOL'd, man I should've known") that will cause plenty of SMH-ing. French Montana's brief appearance on the track is just as inexplicable as the song itself.
11. Do My Thang - Cleanse your palate of the flat-footed "FU" with the official anthem of "Bangerz," musically and lyrically. "Do My Thang" finds Cyrus doing just that, tossing out lines that grow more absurd by the second as the gooey synthesizers and snapping percussion combine for a lovably ratchet cocoon. It's takes guts to present words like "Bang bitch, you think I'm strange, bitch?/It's bananas like a fucking 'rangutan, bitch" with a straight face, but Cyrus' fearlessness was never in doubt on the album.

12. Maybe You're Right - Walloping drums and guided by a far-off chorus of "whoa-oh-oh's" as Cyrus relates her predictably deteriorating romance to the chapters of a book she knows all too well. With hints of gospel influence, "Maybe You're Right" can be interpreted as an autobiographical glimpse inside Cyrus' dynamic with her ex-fiancee; after admitting, "You might think I'm crazy… Maybe you're right," the singer strides forward and unapologetically belts, "This chapter's done."
13. Someone Else - It's fitting that Cyrus' last declaration (on the standard edition of the album, at least) of her new self and dismissal of past baggage comes alongside a Mike WiLL Made It beat that finds the hip-hop maestro spilling over into shimmering synth-pop. "Someone Else" does not completely resonate, especially at its running time, but it makes for a fascinating listen nonetheless -- much like "Bangerz" in its entirety.

#987ShowMeTheMusic - Monday, 4th November, 2013

Katy Perry's PRISM … vote your fav colour-of-a-track NOW and stand a chance to win the album, come Thursday, 11th Nov on #987ShowMeTheMusic at around 11:45am! Good Luck!
"PRISM" has its share of candy-colored fun, but also something else: more detail in its tempered shades. With a string of hit singles under her belt, Perry has aspired to create a multi-faceted full-length and has consummately succeeded.
Which songs on "PRISM" are the best of the best? Check out our track-by-track take on Katy Perry's third album.
1. Roar

On an album that contains multiple "I survived a trauma and am stronger for it" anthems, "Roar" is the most accessible, and deservedly became Perry's eighth No. 1 Hot 100 single. One could dock a few points for the lack of a compelling bridge, but those points would be scooped back up thanks to the chorus' combustible assonance and the morphing of the word "roar" into a two-syllable rallying cry.
2. Legendary Lovers - Perry name-checks Cleopatra and Shakespeare's Juliet in describing the eternal passion she and her man could experience on this mystical love song. The singer's multi-cultural excavations are proudly rattled off, but the hook tidily simplifies Perry's intent as the drums are unforgivingly clobbered.
3. Birthday - Taking the fairly straightforward lyrical concept of birthday-as-sex and making the absolute most of it, Perry outclasses Rihanna's "Birthday Cake" and shimmies through a blazing brass party. Dr. Luke, Martin and Cirkut concoct a delicious nugget of synth candy, but the star here is Perry, who keeps her tongue firmly in cheek during the salacious verses before teetering between power and falsetto on the hook.
4. Walking on Air

"Walking on Air" shirks the double entendres of "Birthday" and allows Perry to re-imagine herself as a progressive house artist, complete with brassy backup vocals bridging the gaps in her euphoric lyrics. Credit to Klas Ahlund, a frequent Robyn collaborator, for knowing precisely how to utilize Perry's layered vocals on this crackerjack genre stop.
5. Unconditionally - The beat drips toward a drain, a distant voice cries something undecipherable, and Perry sounds defeated before committing to "your bad days with your good." Perry has described "PRISM's" second single as her favorite song on the album, and while "Unconditionally" is more difficult to uncork than, say, "Birthday," the visceral ballad successfully conveys Perry's most prized possession: a relationship with zero asterisks.
6. Dark Horse feat. Juicy J

The pop singer sashays toward trap music on "Dark Horse" and absolutely scores; the dank, murmuring production on the song is not the easiest track to navigate, but Perry shape-shifts into a lip-puckering femme fatale and slays. Oddly, the album's lone guest, Juicy J, can't make a simile stick ("She eat your heart out/Like Jeffrey Dahmer!"), but Perry rescues "Dark Horse" with a barn-burning final chorus.
7. This Is How We Do - There's a reason that Perry repeats the phrase "It's no big deal" on the pre-chorus in "This Is How We Do" -- the song is a paean for stakes-free frivolity, from the keyboard blasts that puncture the hook to the ingenious "Mariah Carey-oke" line. The "bring the beat back!" outro is a bit laborious, but at this point, Perry has earned the right to showcase her sillier side.
8. International Smile - The kicky pop-rock ode to Perry's pal, jet-setting producer Mia Moretti, closes out the first half of "PRISM" on the lightest of steps. "International Smile" shifts to third-person point of view as Perry studies her friend's global savvy, and features another ardent breakdown, this time using a funked-up vocoder breakdown that would make Daft Punk green with envy (if they weren't, you know, robots).
9. Ghost - The album's second movement begins with Perry extending the mood from "Wide Awake," as she clearly sees her beau for all of his flaws. The self-assuredness is also recognizable in this Dr. Luke/Martin/Cirkut collaboration, a ringing guitar riff chugging Perry along toward independence.
10. Love Me - "I lost my own, my own identity/Forgot that you picked me for me," goes this snappy track about the sanctity of acceptance, which benefits from Bloodshy's luminescent collection of soft rhythms and escalating tempos. There's a lot to unpack in the details of "Love Me," making it one of "PRISM's" most replay-worthy tracks.

11. This Moment - Pop songs often touch upon the pitiless passage of time, but rarely does a radio-friendly track address the subject with this much clarity. In under four minutes, Perry inspires the listener to stop dwelling on the past, understand the important of the present and seize the future, in a neon package wrapped by Stargate and Benny Blanco.
12. Double Rainbow - Leave it to Sia and Greg Kurstin to contribute the most precise pop track to "PRISM" -- like the former's David Guetta collaboration "Titanium," "Double Rainbow" lets its vocalist drift through the uncluttered ether of its verse before hammering down on the majestic chorus. Perry sounds supremely comfortable working over this throwback track, which could have easily been a hit for Cyndi Lauper if it had been dreamed up three decades earlier.
13. By The Grace of God - A piano ballad that holds little back, "By The Grace of God" is the most revealing song Perry will likely ever pen about her failed marriage and its resulting depression. "Looked in the mirror and decided to stay/Wasn't gonna let love take me out that way," the singer concludes, as she strides out of the abyss with her head held high. "By The Grace of God" is obviously not the radio fare fans are used to from the pop star, but is crucial for anyone trying to understand Perry's "PRISM" mind set.
14. Spiritual - The first extra song on the "PRISM" deluxe edition serves as the yang to "By The Grace of God's" yin, with Perry's current boyfriend, John Mayer, co-writing a lilting track about being head over heels. Fear not, "Spiritual" is not syrupy in the least -- in fact, the "sweet ecstasy" that Perry sings about is gifted in such a charming, catchy manner that listeners are likely to float right alongside the singer.
15. It Takes Two - One of the few songs on "PRISM" that does not sound quite right for its performer, "It Takes Two" translates the soulful optimism of co-writer Emeli Sande's music into another instant of self-examination for Perry. The lyrics are arresting enough to be heard, however, and Perry musters enough power to sell "It Takes Two" the best she can.
16. Choose Your Battles- "PRISM" ends on a correctly contemplative foot, with tribal drums swirling while Perry pounds her chest and spews venom at the man she cannot understand. Perry's longtime collaborator Greg Wells works with a muted palette of colors here, keeping the focus on the drums and the tender vulnerability on Perry's voice.

#987ShowMeTheMusic - Monday, 28th October, 2013

#987ShowMeTheMusic

POPPETS it's finally your week!

1. I Love It (feat. Charli XCX)

The unapologetic shouting match that this summer needed, "I Love It" is still riveting in its celebratory anger. Written at a time when Icona Pop was living in London and didn't have anything, "I Love It" has rightly given the duo everything a pop artist could ask for.
2. All Night

Icona Pop's follow-up U.S. single is much more than a neutered version of "I Love It," despite the similar vocal deliveries and lyrical themes. Here, Hjelt and Jawo allow their bliss to linger over a twinkling keyboard and steady guitars instead of stomping on the gas pedal; the desires to "smash the club" and "makes the wrongs turn right" aren't deep, but they don't need to be.
3. We Got The World - Microwaved synthesizers and lines like "Only you and I, DIY/We found a way to live the dream until we die!" color this abrasively cheerful ditty about embracing life, love and fun. The cliches are in full bloom, and distract from the lush synth-pop arrangement.
4. Ready For The Weekend - Another holdover from the previously released "Iconic" EP, "Ready For The Weekend" overcomes its scatterbrained structure and pummels the listener with twisting hooks. For better or worse, you'll be hard-pressed to find a modern pop track that possesses a more sobering outro, but the album's extended version of the track adds an alluring intro for our listening pleasure.
5. Girlfriend

For the doubters who never thought that Tupac Shakur would be listed as a co-writer on a Swedish pop single, Icona Pop has concocted "Girlfriend," which interpolates the lyrics to the late rapper's "Me and My Girlfriend." Co-produced by Stargate and released as a promotional single overseas, "Girlfriend" banks on a risky re-imagining and scores: from the sneering "Na-na-na-na!" at the opening to the beefed-up percussion during the second chorus, "Girlfriend" treats its concept with care and magnifies the musical cohesion of Hejlt and Jawo.
6. In The Stars - The divine "In The Stars" finally lets Icona Pop transcend the expectation for dance cuts as intense as "I Love It" and make a gorgeous, slightly slower-paced piece of Euro-pop candy. The plinking production and soaring chorus could have belonged to any number of pop divas, but Icona Pop fashion the details around their greatest strengths.
7. On a Roll - A swinging melody and arresting lyrics allow listeners to have as much fun soaking in "On A Roll" as Hjelt and Jawo have performing the track. There's nothing incredibly complicated about the roll Icona Pop are on here -- that roll follows the phrase "rock and," FYI -- but the simple shimmer is bright enough to entertain.
8. Just Another Night - "Stepping over cracks in the pavement, another night of being wasted/Staring at your name, staring at your name…" goes the unexpectedly somber beginning of this wistful breakup track. "Just Another Night" doesn't completely resonate as a self-aware curveball, but the presentation of the solo vocals in the verses is remarkably effective, and turns "Just Another Night" into a ballad worth a revisit.
9. Hold On - The placement on "Hold On" after "Just Another Night" on the album's track list is the song's greatest detriment: after the emotional nakedness of the preceding track, the swelling chorus and straight-faced writing on "Hold On" simply cannot muster up enough weight to become a highlight. This needed a few major changes before being presented as a finished product.
10. Light Me Up - The uptempo grooves and monolithic yelps of the album's first half return on "Light Me Up," and just in time -- after the previous two tracks, the worming bass and chic attitude here is much-needed. One of the album's longer songs at only three minutes and 20 seconds (!), "Light Me Up" deserves an elongated dance remix.
11. Then We Kiss - An absolute stunner with multiple movements, "Then We Kiss" is original and exciting enough to eventually become Icona Pop's follow-up hit to "I Love It." The chant "THEN! WE! KISS!" on the album closer is euphoric enough to remind any listener of the jittery feeling of a first kiss.
