Football first and in Day-13 of the FIFA World Cup – The United States of America have made it through to the next stage of the competition with a crucial 1-nil win over Algeria.
A 91st minute goal from Landon Donavan took the U.S. to the top of the standings in Gorup C ahead of England.
The English however in their do-or-die match with Slovenia saw Jermain Defoe’s 23rd minute goal secure England’s passage into the Round-of-16.
England will next face Germany in the next phase on Sunday in Bloemfontein.
The German’s who topped Group D – beat Ghana 1-nil in Johannesburg’s Soccer City.
And despite the loss Ghana had a superior goal difference as compared to Australia who are level on points with the Afircan state after their tie with Serbia.
The Socceroos only managed a 2-1 win over the Serbs – and had scored 3 less than Ghana.
Ghana who are currently the sole representatives for Africa in the Round-of-16 will take on the U.S.A. this Saturday in Rustenburg.

Later this evening Group F concludes with ties bewteen Slovakia and Italy in Ellis Park; and Paraguay take on New Zealand in Polokwane.
Both matches kick-off at 10pm.
And a little later at 2:30am – Group E will round things off with ties between Cameroon and the Netherlands in Cape Town; and in Rustenburg, a possible tussle for second spot bewteen Denmark and Japan.

Finally in Tennis a quick update on Wimbledon – Roger Federer was once again stretched this time by qualifier Ilija Bozoljac, from Serbia, who’s ranked 152nd in the world.
Federer eventually triumphed 6-3 6-7 6-4 7-6.
Elswhere John Isner and Nicolas Mahut played out the longest professional tennis match in history at Wimbledon but after 10 hours it is still not finished.
The duo had been on court for exactly 10 hours when play was halted by fading light with the score at 59-59 in the final set.
