We start with Football and in the Champions League Matchday 2 - Arsenal beat 10-man Partizan Belgrade 3-1 with Marouane Chamakh and Sebastien Squillaci scoring the crucial goals;
and Andrei Arshavin missed a penalty after giving Arsenal the lead in their Group H encounter.

In another Group H tie – Shakhtar Donetsk managed a 3-0 away win over Portugal’s Braga.

Elsewhere in Group F Chelsea defeated Marseille 2-0 through John Terry and a Nicolas Anelka penalty; and Spartak Moscow defeated MSK Zillina 3-0.

In Group E – AS Roma managed a 2-1 win over CFR Cluj; and FC Basel were beaten 2-1 at home by last season’s runner’s up Bayern Munich.

Finally in Group G – Real Madrid saw off Auxerre of France 1-0 with di Maria scoring the vital goal 9 minutes from time; and in Holland Ajax were held to 1-all draw by AC Milan.

Back home in the Singapore Cup Quarter-final action – Etoile FC took a giant step towards the semis with a 2-0 win over Hong-Kong side Kitchee FC.

Playing at the Queenstown Stadium last night – Julian Deletraz and Karim Boudjema were on target for the stars who play the return leg this Friday at the Jalan Besar Stadium.

The Jalan Besar Stadium tonight however will stage an S-League tie – as Geylang will take to the field after their incident with Beijing Guoan.

The Eagles will face Sengkang Punggol from 7:30pm.

Finally in Motor-racing – Ferrari team principal Stefano Domenicali has called for cool, calm heads if they are to win the Formula One world title.

In his bid for a third championship, Fernando Alonso is firmly back in contention after back-to-back victories in Italy and Singapore, and with three wins in the last five grands prix overall.

29-year-old now trails leader Mark Webber by 11 points, and is favourite in many people's eyes to add to the titles he won in 2005 and 2006.
