Kicking-off with Football – and Alan Pardew has been named the new manager of Newcastle United on a five-and-a-half year deal which will run until the summer of 2016.

Pardew’s first match in charge will be the visit of Liverpool to St James' tomorrow evening and he said he was "privileged" to be taking the reins.

The Blues, who have come unstuck over recent weeks, are due to face Tottenham on Sunday night, Manchester United next weekend and Arsenal before the turn of the year.

Drogba has also said the title race is not over yet despite a four-match winless run in the league having seen Carlo Ancelotti's side allow a five-point lead at the summit to dwindle down to a two-point deficit.

Other key ties over the weekend include – Aston Villa hosting West Bromwich Albion at Willa Park; Fulham will play Sunderland at Cravern Cottage; bottom-of-the-table West Ham United play Manchester City at Upton Park; and Manchester United will only play on Monday night against Arsenal at Old Trafford
