Tennis first and in the French Open Mens finals – Rafael Nadal beat Sweden’s Robin Soderling in straight sets : 6-4, 6-2, 6-4 to win his 5th Roland Garros title.

Spain’s Nadal who won the final within 2 hours and 18 minutes now becomes only the second man in history to win 5 title’s, and a possibility of breaking that record.

Next Football and with just 4 days to the start of the FIFA World Cup in South Africa - South Africa president Jacob Zuma insists his nation is more than ready to host the tournament.

Zuma also paid tribute to Nelson Mandela for his role in bringing the finals to the African continent for the first time.

Day 1 of the competition sees hosts South Africa in action against Mexico at the Soccer City Stadium in Johannesburg starting this Friday night.

Back home in the S-League – Tampines Rovers went straight back to the top of the table with a convincing 4-nil win over Beijing Guoan.

Playing at the Tampines Stadium last night – goals from Jamil Ali, Aliff Shafaein, and a brace from Aleksander Duric rounded off a soild victory for the Rovers who are now a point ahead of nearest rivals Etoile FC.

More S-League action tonight – as Gombak United will hope to get the better of Albirex Niigata and climb into third on the table at the Jurong West Stadium.

And over at the Toa Payoh Stadium Balestier Khalsa will host the Young Lions.

Both ties will kick-off at 7:45pm.

In Basketball and in the NBA Finals – The Boston Celtics stunned the Los Angeles Lakers in their own backyard in Game 2.


The Celtics scored an impressive 103 to 94 win over the Lakers and tie the series at 1-all.

Ray Allan scored 32 points for the Celtics who now play at home in Game 3 this Wednesday.

Swinging to Golf now – and at the Memorial Tournament in Dublin, Ohio – Justin Rose clinched the title after overtaking overnight co-leader Ricky Fowler by 3 strokes at 18-under 270.

The 29-year old Rose did what Fowler had done the day before – and that’s make birdies and not make mistakes.
