First Football and results of Day 5 action in the FIFA World Cup – in Group G 5-time World Champions Brazil were made to hang on to a 2-1 win over lowly North Korea.

After a scoreless first half the Samba giants finally broke the deadlock in the 55th minute through Maicon’s acute angled goal.

Elano then followed through with a second 17 minutes later.

The North Koreans however got their consolation goal through Ji Yun Nam towards the end of the game.

Brazil now top their Group – as the Ivory Coast and Portugal played out to a goalless draw in an eralier at Port Elisabeth.

Elsewhere in Group F – Slovakia and New Zealand cancelled each other out in a pulsating 1-all draw in Rustenburg.

The New Zealander’s, making their appearance in the World Cup after a 28-year absence, scored the equaliser in the dying seconds through Winston Reid.

Group H will get underway in the battle of the Amercias as Hondurus will kick-off their campiagn against Chile at the Mbombela Stadium in Nelspruit at 7:30pm.

At 10pm - European Champions Spain take on Switzerland in Durban with Liverpool’s Fernando Toress expected to start on the bench.

And Group A swings back into action again later tonight when hosts South Africa take on Uruguay in Pretoria at 2:30am.

The winner of that tie will surely have one foot into the next Round already.

Finally in Basketball and in the NBA Finals – it’s down to the wire as the Los Angeles Lakers have produced a winning tie in Game 6 beating the Boston Celtics 89 to 67.

Kobe Bryant lead the scoring for the Lakers drowning the Celtics with 26-points.

The win at the Laker’s Staple Centre ties the series at 3-all and the all decisive game 7 takes place again in L.A. this Thursday.
