Football first and in FIFA World Cup Round-of-16 action – Brazil turned on the style as they beat Chile 3-0 in Ellis Park.

Two quickfire goals from Juan and Luis Fabiano sealed the tie, before Robinho sent Dunga's men into a quarter-final clash with Netherlands

Holland in their earlier match-up against Slovakia in Durban managed a 2-1 win.

The Netherlands and Brazil go head-to-head in Port Elisabeth – in the first of four quarter-final ties starting this Friday.

Final ties in the Round-of-16 later tonight – Group F winners Paraguay will take on Japan in Pretoria from 10pm;

and from 2:30am – Spain will battle against neighbours Portugal in Cape Town.

Swinging over to Tennis now and in Wimbledon – Rafael Nadal eased into the next stage of the competition with a dominant victory over Paul-Henri Mathieu.

The Spaniard made it 10 wins from 10 career meetings against Mathieu with a 6-4 6-2 6-2 victory on Court One to set up an eye-catching quarter-final with sixth seed Robin Soderling.

Soderling on the other hand reached the last-eight for the first time only after a gruelling 5-set win against Spain’s David Ferrer, 6-2 5-7 6-2 3-6 7-5.

In Ladies fourth-round action – Serena Williams saw off former world number one Maria Sharapova 11-9 in the first-set and then secured a 6-4 second-set victory.

And eslewhere in the battle of the Belgians – Kim Clijsters won her battle with Justine Henin beating her Fed Cup team-mate 2-6 6-2 6-3.

Clijsters will now face Russian Vera Zvonareva in a quarter-final showdown.

And finally in Motorsport – in Formula One – and in the aftermath of the European Grand Prix – Lotus Racing's chief technical officer Mike Gascoyne believes Mark Webber should accept responsibility for his spectacular accident.

Webber was fortunate to walk away unscathed after smashing into the back of Heikki Kovalainen's Lotus, a 190mph shunt that propelled the Australian's Red Bull into the air.
