SPORTS 100726

We kick-off with Football and in transfer news – Liverpool boss Roy Hodgson has given the clearest indication yet that Fernando Torres could be heading out of Anfield.

Hodgson has suggested that the player has a long-standing gripe with the club and not with him.

Staying with Liverpool – Rafael van der Vaart could be on his way in as the Dutch-striker has issued a come-and-get-me plea.

van der Vaart has also been the target of Chelsea.

Back on the pitch and in results in pre-season friendlies in the United States – Manchester United were defeated by the Kansas City Wizards 2-1; and Manchester City lost out to the New York Red Bulls also by the same scoreline.

Tottenham Hot Spurs kept their unbeaten streak intact with a 1-all draw against Sporting Lisbon of Portugual.

Moving onto to the S-League and in last night’s only tie at the Woodland’s Stadium – Beijing Guoan left Woodlands Wellington rooted to the bottom of the table with a 1-nil win.

Despite going down to 10-men before the half – the Chinese outfit held on for the victory with Zhang Ye scoring the decisive goal in the 22nd minute.

More S-League action later this evening when Balestier Khalsa will play against Albirex Niigata at the Toa Payoh Stadium and that tie kicks off at 7:45pm.

Finally in Formula One – and in the aftermath of the controversial German Grand Prix – Ferrari has been fined $100,000 for implementing team orders at yesterday’s race.

And the FIA's World Motor Sport Council will also consider whether a heavier sanction should be imposed.

This as Fernando Alonso took victory at Hockenheim but only after team-mate Felipe Massa moved over with 17 laps remaining.

A move apparently orchestrated by his race engineer on radio during the race.
