SPORTS 100802

Football first and Manchester United midfielder Anderson has been involved in a car crash in Portugal.

The player was pulled from the wreckage moments before it burst into flames and was sent to hospital sustaining minor injuries.

Elsewhere back on the pitch – in the Emirates Cup – Arsenal won the tournament ahead of Lyon and AC Milan after a 3-2 victory over Celtic.

And in other pre-season friendlies – A poor opening goal handed Eintracht Frankfurt a head start as Premier League champions Chelsea went down 2-1 in Germany.

Portuguese Champions Benfica hammered Aston Villa 4-1 and Liverpool were disappointing with a 1-nil loss to Germany’s Monchengladbach despite most of their stars returning to action.

Back home in the S-League – SAFFC’s dismal season continued when they were beaten 2-nil by league leaders Tampine Rovers last night at the Tampines Stadium.

Former Warriror Aleksander Duric was once again on target for Tampines in the 14th minute, and Khairul Amri added a penalty in the last minute of play.

Looking ahead tonight - Beijing Guoan will take on Home United at the Yishun Stadium starting at 7:45pm.

Finally in Formula One – A drive-through penalty for his team mate helped seal an unexpected, but well-deserved win for Red Bull's Mark Webber in yesterday’s Hungarian Grand Prix.

Sebastian Vettel took third following his safety-car rule infringement, behind Ferrari's Fernando Alonso.

The result means that Webber now leads the drivers' standings from Lewis Hamilton after the McLaren retired on lap 24 with transmission problems.

The next race is in Belgium on the 29th of August.
