SPORTS 100730

We start with Football and former Manchester City boss Mark Hughes has been appointed on a two-year contract to become the successor to Roy Hodgson at Fulham.

Hughes, sacked by City last December, has been weighing up his options after being linked with a number of jobs both in England and abroad.

Back on the pitch and in Europa League Qualifiers – David Ngog struck twice as Roy Hodgson began his reign as Liverpool manager away with a comfortable 2-nil first-leg victory over Macedonia’s FK Rabotnicki.

Also cruising through in their first-leg tie were Juventus who defeated Shamrock Rovers 2-nil in Dublin.

Back home in the S-League – Home United came back from a goal down to beat the Young Lions 2-1 at the Clementi Stadium last night.

Sufian Anuar’s double in the space of two-minutes helped the Protectors solidify third place and are just 3 points away from second-placed Etoile FC.

And looking ahead tonight – high-flying Geylang United will play against Albirex Niigata at the Jalan Besar Stadium; that tie scheduled to kick-off at 7:30pm.

Finally in Formula One - Michael Schumacher has revealed he held a private conversation with Felipe Massa about the controversial events in Germany.

Massa has effectively become Ferrari's number two driver for the remainder of the season after being told, via coded messages, to allow team-mate Fernando Alonso to pass and collect the win.

The F1 races into Hungary today with Ferrari’s Alonso determine to repeat last weekend’s win at the Hungaroring and silence Ferrari critics.
