Football first and in the aftermath of last night’s clash between Liverpool and Arsenal – Reds manager Roy Hodgson claimed Joe Cole was "devastated" after he was sent off on his league debut.

The big-name free transfer from Chelsea was dismissed late in first-half injury time of his new club's season-opening 1-all draw with Arsenal at Anfield.

Manchester United start their campaign later tonight when they face Newcastle United at home at Old Trafford.

Wayne Rooney will be looking to score and new signing Javier Hernandez may have to be content with a place on the bench after a midweek trip to Mexico for the friendly draw with Spain.

The final major of the season at Whistling Straits, Wisconsin saw 21-year-old Rory McIlroy came joint third, just as he did last year and in The Open last month.

However Phil Mickelson did not do enough to topple Tiger Woods from the world number one spot.

Mickelson finished tied 12th at 6-under, whilst Woods finished tied 28th at 2-under.
