Football and in the English Premiership – Manchester City went down 1-0 to Sunderland at the Stadium of Light thanks to a 90th minute penalty from Darren Bent.
Elsewhere, Fernando Torres helped Liverpool beat West Brom 1-0; 10-men Bolton came back to draw 2-2 with Birmingham City and Aston moved up to fourth in the Premier League after beating Everton 1-0.

In the Spanish La Liga – Real Madrid started their new campaign with a disappointing 0-0 draw away at Mallorca; and Barcelona kicked-off the defense of their title with a 3-0 away win at Racing Santander.

Racing off into Formula One – in the aftermath of the Belgian Grand Prix – Lewis Hamilton says he feels "blessed" with victory after his title rivals slipped up at Spa.
The McLaren driver took the lead at the first corner when polesitter Mark Webber struggled off the line after suffering a clutch problem.
Second-placed Webber's Red Bull team-mate Sebastian Vettel finished 15th after a torrid race which saw him collide with another title rival, Jenson Button.
Renault’s Robert Kubica came in thrid.
Hamilton now leads the driver’s standings 3 points ahead of Mark Webber and is looking forward to the next race in Italy in mid-September.

Finally in Golf – Martin Laird squandered a five-shot lead to miss out on a second US Tour victory in The Barclays in New Jersey.
Laird closed at 71 and left him tied with American Matt Kuchar on 12 under par, with Kuchar having set the clubhouse target after a final round of 66.
Kuchar and Laird then met in the playoff with Kuchar claiming the first prize of US $1.35million dollars.
Tiger Woods managed a 67 in his final Round to finished tied 12th at 7 under.
