Serving with Tennis first and in the US Open – Roger Federer sailed through into the next stage with a 3-sets win over Austria’s Jurgen Melzer.
The Swiss master beat Melzer 6-3, 7-5, 6-3 and will next meet 5th seed Robin Soderling in the Quarter-finals.
Also advancing into the quarters was France’s Gales Monfils who defeated fellow countryman Richard Gasquet 6-4, 7-5, 7-5; and number 3 seed Novak Djokovic made light work of his Amercian opponent Mardy Fish 6-3, 6-4, 6-2.
Djokovic will next meet Gasquet in the final eight.
Moving over to Ladies Round-4 action and Russia’s Maria Sharapova has been ousted from the competition by number one seed Caroline Wozniacki 6-3, 6-4.
Denmark’s Wozniacki will next play in the quarters against unseeded Slovakian Dominika Cibulkova after she managed an upset victory over 11th seed Svetlana Kuznetsova of Russia 7-5, 7-6.

Football next and in the wake of England’s EURO 2012 qualifier against Switzerland – Chelsea manager Carlo Ancelotti has backed Fabio Capello's decision to stick with troubled England striker Wayne Rooney.
Rooney is expected to play for England later tonight in Basel despite lurid allegations about his private life emerging in the English press.
Elsewhere Portugal captain Ricardo Carvalho says that his side will look to tighten up at the back against Norway after their thrilling 4-all draw with Cyprus last week;
and Germany striker Mirolsav Klose has set his sights on the country's goalscoring record - set by the legendary Gerd Muller; Klose has vowed to add to his tally in the Euro 2012 qualifiers when they host lowly Azebaijan later tonight.

And finally back home – it was a night of upsets in the S-League last night as Home United missed its chance to go top of the league when they had to come back from 2-goals down to draw 2-all against Sengkang-Punggol at the Clementi Stadium.
And over at the Bedok Stadium – 10-men Geyalng United drew blanks and ended up losing 1-nil to bottom-placed Woodlands Wellington.
More S-League action tonight as the Young Lions host Beijing Guaoan at the Jalan Besar Stadium.
That tie kicks-off at 7:45pm.
