Tennis and the US Open – in women’s singles action – Australia’s Sam Stosur came back from the dead to defeat 12th seed Elena Dementieva, 6-3, 2-6, 7-6.
5th seed Stosur advances into the quarters to next meet Kim Clijsters who easily disposed off Serbia’s Ana Ivanovic 6-1, 6-2.
In Men’s 3rd Round action – 4th seed Andy Murray was ousted by Switzerland’s Satanislas Warwrinka.
The Swiss took fourth sets to move onto the next round winning 6-7, 7-6, 6-3, 6-3.
Elsewhere Spain’s Rafael Nadal easily breezed through into Round 4 with a 3-sets win over Gilles Simon of France 6-4, 6-4, 6-2.
Nadal will next play countryman Fernando Verdasco who beat Argentine David Nalbandian 6-2, 3-6, 6-3, 6-2.

Football next and in the S-League last night – SAFFC maintained their winning streak with a 2-0 away win against Gombak United at the Jurong West Stadium.
A Federico Martinez brace was enough to secure the Warriors all 3-points and have moved them up to 4th in the table.
More S-League action this evening as Geylang United will play against Woodlands Wellington at the Bedok Stadium; and over at the Clementi Stadium – Home United will go top of the league tonight if they beat Sengkang Punggol at home.
Both ties will kick-off at 7:45pm.

Finally in Basketball – in a pre-season warm-up to the upcoming Asean Basketball League – the Singapore Slingers managed a 97-72 win over Rain or Shine from the Philippines at the Singapore Indoor Stadium yesterday.
Local slinger Steven Khoo topped the scoring charts with 23 points, including three 3-pointers.
The Singapore Slingers will next play Meralco of the Philippines next Monday from 8pm, at Indoor Stadium.
