Tennis first and number two seed Roger Federer brushed aside his German opponent Andreas Beck to advance into Round 3.
The Swiss Master defeated Beck in three-sets 6-3, 6-4, 6-3 and will next meet France’s Paul-Henri Mathieu.
The Frenchman continued his fine form in Round 2 after ousting Leyton Hewitt in Round 1 – Mathieu beat his fellow-countryman Guillaume Rufin 7-6, 6-4, 6-3.
It was also a good night for France as unseeded Richard Gasquet defeated number 6 seed Nikolay Davydenko of Russia 6-3, 6-4, 6-2.
In Women’s action no upsets as it was a breeze for number 1 seed Caroline Wozniacki as easily beat Kai-Chen Chang of Taipei 6-0, 6-0.
And for Russia’s Maria Sharapova it was also a one-sided affair as she crusied past her Czech opponent Iveta Benesova 6-1, 6-2.

The Liverpool captain aksed if there was an English manager which had the CV of Fabio Capello on the eve of England’s EURO 2012 qualifying tie against Bulgaria.

Back on the pitch in the S-League – SAFFC managed a 2-1 win home win over lowly Sengkang-Punggol last night.
Ivan Jerkovich scored the decisive winning goal for the Warriors at the Choa Chu Kang Stadium after Jordan Webb’s penalty drew the Dolphins level with SAFFC.
S-League action swings back at Jalan Besar Stadium this evening as the battle for top spot takes centrestage as Home battles Etoile FC.
A win for the French-outfit and it will give them a 2-point lead at the top but having played a game more; and a win for Home United will mean just being a point away from leaders Tampines Rovers.
This exciting tie kicks-off at 7:30pm.
