SPORTS 101001

We start with Football and results of Matchday 2 in the Europa League – Liverpool were held to a goalless draw by FC Utrecht of the Nedtherlands.

And despite the draw the Reds still head Group K after Napoli came back from 3-0 down to draw 3-3 away at Steaua Bucuresti.

Elsewhere in Group A – Manchester City and Juventus battled to a 1-all draw at the City of Manchester Stadium.

Adam Johnson rescued the home side after Vincenzo Iaquinta put Juve in the lead after only 11 minutes.

In other group ties – it was a good night for Spanish sides – as Seville managed a 1-0 win away against Germany’s Borussia Dortmund; Villarreal beat 10-men Club Brugge of Belgium 2-1; and current holders Atletico Madrid got their first point of the competition in a 1-all draw with German-side Bayer Laverkusen at home.

Closer to home in the Singapore Cup Quarter-final second-leg – Tampines Rovers came back from a goal down to beat Balestier Khalsa 3-1 on the night – 6-1 on aggregate.

Playing at the Toa Payoh Stadium last night – The Tigers’ lead through Karuppayah Vikraman was short-lived as the Rovers equalized just before the half.

Tampines will next face either the Young Lions or Albirex Niigata in the semi-finals.

Another Quarter-final tie is scheduled later this evening as Kitchee FC of Hong Kong hope to overturn a 2-0 deficit against Etoile FC.

That exciting second-leg kicks-off at 7:30pm at the Jalan Besar Stadium.
