SPORTS 101022

We kick-off with Football and results in Match-Day 3 of the Europa League – Liverpool played out to a goalless draw against Napoli in Italy.

It was the second successive goalless draw for the Reds who continue to top Group K with 5 points.

Elsewhere – in Group A Manchester City’s Adebayor grabbed a hat-trick to beat Lech Poznan of Poland 3-1; in Group B holders Atletico Madrid defeated Norway’s Rosenborg 3-0; Anderlecht recorded their first win in Group G beating AEK Athens 3-0; and despite ending the game with 9-men – FC Porto managed a 3-1 away win at Turkey’s Besiktas.

Off the pitch news and Frank Rijkaard's agent insists he has not been approached by Liverpool, after he was touted as a potential replacement for Roy Hodgson at Anfield.

However the under-pressure Liverpool manager has rubbished reports he is about to quit Anfield and insists he is in for the long haul.

Moving onto Old Trafford – Manchester United are expected to reveal the fate of Wayne Rooney after Sir Alex Ferguson held a summit at Old Trafford yesterday.

The England international released a statement earlier confirming that he wants to leave the club, citing a perceived lack of ambition within Old Trafford.

Something that manager Sir Alex Ferguson wants to set straight.

In the S-League last night – both ties were postponed due to the extreme haze just before kick-off.

The tie between leaders Etoile FC and the Young Lions at the Queenstown Stadium will now take place tomorrow at 7:45pm and the game between Balestier Khalsa and Geylang United at the Toa Payoh Stadium has been rescheduled to Sunday.

More S-League action tonight if the air-quality is acceptable – as Gombak United will play against Home United at the Jalan Besar Satdium.

A win for Home and they will top the table for at least the next 24 hours, until Etoile play on Saturday; that tie will kick-off at 7:30pm.
