Kicking off with Football and in Spain – Real Madrid progressed to the quarter-final of the Copa del Rey despite suffering a surprise 2-0 defeat to Levante overnight.

However Madrid travelled to the game with an 8-0 advantage from the first leg at the Bernabeu.

Jose Mourinho's men now face a derby date with Atletico Madrid in the quarter-finals as their 1-all draw at Espanyol was enough to progress 2-1 on aggregate.

Moving onto the Italian League – New Inter Milan boss Leonardo saw his side beat Napoli 3-1.

Earlier Parma thrashed Juventus 4-1 at the Stadio Olimpico; second-placed Lazio only managed a 0-0 draw away at Genoa; and AC Milan beat Cagliari 1-0 to extend their lead to 5 points at the top of the Serie A.

In Cricket – England have completed their first Ashes win Down Under in 24 years after taking the last three wickets on the final morning of the fifth Test.

With the urn already retained the all-important series victory was virtually certain yesterday but by finishing the job today, after a battling eighth-wicket stand and a delay for rain, Andrew Strauss' side ensured the 3-1 scoreline they so richly deserved.

Finally in Basketball – A late surge in the forth quarter saved the game and the post-season hopes of the Singapore Slingers as they beat the Westports KL Dragons 93 – 90 in dramatic fashion yesterday in Kuala Lumpur.

This timely victory not only snapped the Slingers’ 3-game losing streak, but also gave them some room to breath in their tight competition with Satria Muda BritAma for the final playoffs berth.

The Slingers will next play bottom-placed Brunei Barracudas this Sunday in an all important ABL tie at the Singapore Indoor Stadium – tip off is at 4pm and you can still get your tickets from SISTIC!
