On the courts with Tennis first and in the French Open – Serena Williams made a strong statement that she's prepared to win her second Roland Garros title.
The World number 1 crushed Israel's Shahar Peer 6-2, 6-2 in the fourth round to set up a quarter-final showdown with Sam Stosur.
The Australian in turn stunned four-time champion Justine Henin 2-6, 6-1, 6-4 to make it through into the last-eight.
In Men’s action – Second-seed Rafael Nadal survived a valiant two-and-a-half-hour onslaught by Brazilian No.24 seed Thomaz Bellucci.
The 23-year old Nadal eventually triumphed in three tight sets 6-2, 7-5, 6-4.

Moving onto Football and Jose Mourinho has been officially paraded in front of the press as the new manager of Real Madrid.
Mourinho who led Inter Milan to an unprecedented treble last season, takes over from Manuel Pellegrini who was sacked after finishing second in La Liga and failing to get past the Second Round in the Champions League.
The 47-year old is the Spanish giants' ninth coach in six years, with Real paying a reported 8 million-pounds in compensation.

Back on the pitch and in World Cup warm-ups – South Africa kept their winning streak intake with a 5-nil demolition of Guatemala.
South Africa will kick-off their campaign as hosts in FIFA’s World Cup 2010 against France in Group A on June 11th.

Back home in the final RHB Singapore Cup – Preliminary Round tie – Hong Kong’s Kitchee FC defeated S-League’s Bejing Guoan 2-1 in extra-time to advance.
With the score at 1-all after full-time- the tie was made easier for the Hong Kong-side when Beijing’s Yu Yang was sent off in the 99th minute.
That paved the way for Kitchee’s Michael Cheng to score the winner in the 111th minute.
Kitchee will next play Etoile FC in the quarter’s starting in late September.

Finally in Motor-racing and in Formula One - tensions within the Red Bull racing team appear to have heightened after a crash between teammates Sebastian Vettel and Mark Webber during Sunday’s Turkish Grand Prix.
The incident allowed McLaren's Lewis Hamilton to claim a victory despite Red Bull having led the race up until that point.
Fueling rumours of a feud between the drivers, Red Bull team strategist Helmut Marko backed the Vettel overtaking move that resulted in the coming together, implying that Webber was in the wrong.
