Kicking off with Football and Champions League Play-off Round first-leg results – Swiss-side Young Boys beat Tottenham Hot Spurs 3-2 thanks to a flurry of first-half strikes.

But Harry Redknapp's side remain hopeful of progressing to the Champions League proper thanks to away goals from Sebastien Bassong and Roman Pavlyuchenko.

The second-leg will be played on the 24th of August at White Hart Lane.

In other results – Dynamo Kiev drew 1-all at home against Ajax Amsterdam; and Russia’s Zenit St. Petersburg defeated French-side Auxerre 1-nil.

In Motorsports – Mercedes test driver Nick Heidfeld has been released to work on Pirelli's tyre testing.

It was confirmed on Monday that Heidfeld would be the man to get Pirelli's testing under way at Mugello on Tuesday ahead of the tyre manufacturer's return to Formula One next season.

Finally in a Youth Olympic Games update – Singapore picked up its second bronze medal through taekwondo exponent Nurul Safinas Abdul Rahman last night.

The 17-year-old from Republic Polytechnic secured the medal when she took down Kaburee Ioane of Kiribati 9-0 in the quarter-finals earlier in the day.

Azerbaijan is second in place with 5 Gold and 1 Silver,

Russia are third with 4 Gold, 4 Silver and 3 Bronze.
