We kick-off with Football and with the transfer window already closed, Tottenham are still hopeful of signing Rafael van der Vaart from Real Madrid.

Elsewhere Robinho has ended his Manchester City troubles with a move to AC Milan on a four year deal; West Ham turned down a £9 million-pound bid from Liverpool for Carlton Cole; and Ghanaian star Asamoah Gyan has moved from Stade Rennes to Sunderland for a fee of £13 million-pounds.

Back on the pitch and back home in the S-League last night – Etoile FC scored a crucial 1-nil home win against Geylang United at the Queenstown Stadium.

And over at the Woodlands Stadium – Sharil Ishak and Choi Chul Woo scored to ensure Home United beat Woodlands 2-1 and remain in the hunt for the title.

More S-League action tonight at the Jalan Besar Stadium – as Beijing Guoan will take on current leaders Tampines Rovers.

That tie will kick-off at 7:30pm.

Finally in Tennis in the US Open in Flushing Meadows, New York – number 1 seed Rafael Nadal went the distance in the first two sets and had an easier third set securing a second round spot after defeating his Russian opponent Teymuraz Gabashvili 7-6, 7-6, 6-3.

Nadal will next face Denis Istomin of Uzbekistan in the next stage; the Uzbek defeated Argentine Maximo Gonzalez 7-6, 7-5, 6-1.

Elsewhere 3rd seed Novak Djokovic of Serbia defeated fellow countryman Viktor Troicki in a 5-set thriller 6-3, 3-6, 2-6, 7-5, 6-3.

Djokovic will next take on Germany’s Philip Petzschner in Round 2.

And in women’s singles action it was a breeze for number 1 seed Caroline Wozniacki as she easily brushed aside Amercian Chelsey Gullickson.

Wozniacki will next play Taipei’s Kai-Chen Chang in the second round.
