Football first and Dimitar Berbatov netted a hat-trick against Liverpool to give Manchester United a 3-2 win and avoid a shock comeback from Roy Hodgson's men.
After taking a 2-0 lead the Devils fell prey to two Steven Gerrard goals but collected all 3 points with Berbatov’s third goal 6-minutes from time.
Elsewhere, Chelsea stayed top with a 4-0 win over Blackpool and Manchester City beat Wigan 2-0.

In the La Liga – Barcelona – despite an injury to Lionel Messi – overcame a tough challenge away at Atletico Madrid to win 2-1 and move up to fifth in the Spanish table.
Elsewhere – Valencia kept their 100% record intact with a 2-1 win away at Hercules and replaced Atletico Madrid at the top of the league; and it was also 2-1 away wins for Sevilla and Villarreal against Levante and Malaga respectively.

In the Italian Serie A – Samuel Eto’o scored twice to send Inter Milan joint-top in their 2-1 away win at Palermo; and Cesena grabbed all 3-points with a 1-0 win over Lecce to join Rafa Benitez’s men at the top.
In other results – Juventus hammered Udinese 4-0 away; and Roma were held to a 2-all draw at home by overnight leaders Chievo.

Finally in Basketball – and the Singapore Slingers wrapped up their Pre-Season Challenge for the upcoming Asean Basketball League by beating Philippines’ Air 21 Express 80-65 last night at the Singapore Indoor Stadium.
Five players reached double digits for the Slingers – and new American import Marcus Skinner was the top scorer with 26 points.
The Singapore Slingers will kick-off the second season of the ABL on Sunday, October 3rd with a home tie against Indonesia’s Satria Muda BritAma.
