Football – and Singapore’s hopes of qualifying for the next stage in the Men’s Competition of the Asian Games came crashing down when they were thrashed 4-1 by India.

The Young Lions started the game with zest only to concede after some terrible defending and lapse in concentration.

India now qualifies at the expense of the Republic for the Round-of-16 as one of four best 3rd placed teams in the Prelimanary Group stage.

The 16th Asian Games proper kicks off this evening in GuangZhou, China.

Staying with Football and in news off the pitch – Real Madrid star Cristiano Ronaldo has paid tribute to Sir Alex Ferguson - branding him the best manager in the world.

Ferguson had plucked Ronaldo from relative obscurity after he played against the Red Devils Sporting Lisbon in a friendly game.

And over at Stamford Bridge assistant manager Ray Wilkins has parted ways with Chelsea.

The Chelsea board have chosen not to renew Wilkins’ contract and that he will leave the club with immediate effect.

Wilkin’s has been assistant manager at Chelsea for over two years having taken the position following the departure of Steve Clarke to West Ham United in 2008.

And finally in Motor-racing – and with a couple of days before the start of the final Formula One race of the season – Sebastian Vettel was honest enough to admit Red Bull will be enforcing team orders despite them being banned.

And those under-hand tactics are that he and team-mate Mark Webber will try their very best not to crash into one another come Sunday.

Vettel, who won in Abu Dhabi last year, kept alive his own world title chances by winning at the Brazilian Grand Prix last Sunday.
